Responsibilities

Position Summary

The Preventive Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining, troubleshooting, repairing, and improving injection molding equipment and supporting systems to ensure safe, reliable, and efficient production operations. The candidate will possess strong hydraulic, mechanical, electrical, and injection molding process knowledge and will actively support preventative and predictive maintenance initiatives aimed at maximizing equipment uptime and reducing downtime.

Qualifications and Requirements

Required Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent.
  • Ability to lift up to 75 pounds.
  • Ability to work an 8-hour shift (7:00 AM – 3:30 PM).
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment with minimal supervision.
  • Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • 3–5 years of maintenance experience in a manufacturing environment with an emphasis on plastic injection molding and/or hydraulic systems.
  • Associate Degree in Industrial Maintenance Technology or a related technical field.
  • Maintenance experience involving:
    • Hydraulics
    • Electrical systems
    • Electronics
    • Pneumatics
    • Machining
    • Welding
    • Blueprint and schematic reading
  • Demonstrated service and troubleshooting history supporting manufacturing equipment.
  • Experience using:
    • Microsoft Office Suite
    • CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management Systems)
    • Lean Manufacturing principles
    • 5S methodologies
  • Familiarity with hydraulic injection molding machines from OEMs such as:
    • Engel
    • KraussMaffei
    • Milacron
    • Arburg
  • Experience with Fanuc robots and robotic automation systems.

Essential Responsibilities

Equipment Maintenance & Troubleshooting

  • Perform preventive and predictive maintenance activities according to established schedules and procedures.
  • Troubleshoot and maintain:
    • Hydraulic pumps and valves powered by motors up to 1000 HP
    • Hydraulic systems and machine controls
    • Pneumatic systems and air compressor systems
    • Electrical systems ranging from 115V to 480V
    • Variable Frequency Drives (VFDs)
    • Electric motors and controls
    • Hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders
  • Read and interpret hydraulic, electrical, and pneumatic schematics to identify and resolve equipment issues.

Injection Molding Support

  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for injection molding processes and equipment.
  • Assist Production and Process Engineering teams in resolving machine-related process issues affecting quality, cycle times, and productivity.
  • Understand and operate:
    • Injection molding machine controls
    • Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs)
    • Fanuc robot teach pendants
    • Auxiliary equipment control systems
  • Support molding operations through troubleshooting of:
    • Chillers
    • Water systems
    • Nitrogen systems
    • Temperature control systems
    • Material handling equipment
    • Safety control systems

Continuous Improvement & Reliability

  • Assist in developing and implementing reliability-focused improvement projects.
  • Support the transition toward a more predictive and preventative maintenance culture.
  • Recommend and implement equipment modifications that improve safety, reliability, and performance.
  • Perform welding, fabrication, and minor design work as necessary to correct recurring equipment failures and reduce downtime.

Safety & Leadership

  • Maintain compliance with all safety policies, procedures, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and PPE requirements.
  • Inspect and maintain machine safety systems and guarding.
  • Promote a safe working environment by identifying and correcting safety concerns.
  • Provide leadership, mentorship, and technical training to maintenance technicians and other technical associates as needed.
  • Support teamwork and collaboration across Maintenance, Production, Engineering, and other departments.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Strong understanding of hydraulic injection molding machine operation and troubleshooting.
  • Ability to diagnose hydraulic, electrical, mechanical, and process-related equipment failures.
  • Knowledge of predictive and preventative maintenance methodologies.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude and analytical thinking skills.
  • Familiarity with Lean Manufacturing and continuous improvement principles.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work productively without direct supervision.
